Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrive Prague.  Transfer to your hotel and settle in for a two night stay and take some time out to rest up after the outward flight.  Overnight Prague, Czech Republic.

DAY 2

Enjoy a full day Prague city sightseeing tour with an expert local guide to help give you a real insight into this “city of a hundred spires”. Fortunate enough to have avoided destruction in World War 2, Prague is perhaps the most authentically preserved of all Europe’s capital cities. Highlights include Wenceslas Square, the Old Town Square with its amazing Astronomical Clock, iconic Charles Bridge across the mighty River Vltava, the imposing Prague Castle and Cathedral complex on its hilltop site towering over the city, the fascinating Jewish Quarter and the splendour of the State Opera to name but a few.  Overnight Prague.

DAY 3

After breakfast join your comfortable air conditioned coach for the scenic drive through the Sudeten Mountains and across the border into Poland, with an en route stop for lunch in the historic university city of Wroclaw, renowned for its delightful medieval old town astride the River Oder. Continue across the wide open countryside of Poland with its far ranging views to arrive at the country’s historic capital city, Warsaw, this evening.  Overnight Warsaw, Poland.

DAY 4

This morning’s guided half day sightseeing tour of Warsaw will show you how the historic city centre has been meticulously reconstructed following its devastation in World War 2 – a truly remarkable achievement and a labour of love for its citizens.  You’ll learn too about the darker side of Warsaw’s past as well as its re-emergence as the thriving modern commercial and cultural capital that it is today, and you’ll marvel at the fine array of churches, palaces, art galleries and museums that line the Royal Way, the heart of the city’s historic quarter.  With free time to explore at your leisure this afternoon, there’s plenty to interest the shopper whilst some may enjoy a stroll along the Vistula river or through the wonderful parks and green spaces that are a feature of the modern city.  Overnight  Warsaw.

DAY 5

Today’s drive takes you out of Poland and into the fascinating Baltic States.  For much of the twentieth century, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were part of the USSR, but since “liberation” they have emerged once again as enterprising and fiercely independent countries each proud of its very own heritage.  Perhaps least known and least visited but none the less interesting is Lithuania and today’s journey traverses its bucolic rolling countryside scattered with farmsteads and forest to the capital city of  Vilnius.  Overnight Vilnius, Lithuania.

DAY 6

Vilnius is a lively city with one of the oldest and most charming historic centres in Europe. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, and no wonder as the Cathedral and Cathedral Square, Gediminas Avenue, the Parliament and President’s Palace, St. Anna’s Church, the Gates of Dawn and St. Peter & Paul Church will delight you as you enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of the city’s highlights this morning. After lunch, head north west for an en route stop  at Trakai Castle. Trakai, the former capital of Lithuania, is beautifully situated on an island in the middle of a lake. The Old Town of Trakai, which includes the Island and the Peninsula Castles, is one of Europe’s most impressive and picturesque locations.  Continue to Lithuania’s second city, Kaunas.  Overnight Kaunas, Lithuania.

DAY 7

After breakfast enjoy a short panoramic sightseeing tour of Kaunas including the 13th century Castle, the Old Town Hall, nicknamed the “White Swan”, the Basilica and the architectural complex of Pazaislis Monastery. Continue to Siaulia and visit the Hill of Crosses, the Lithuanian national pilgrimage centre before heading across the border into Latvia for a stop at one of the most impressive attractions in the whole region, the stunning Rundale Palace, its magnificent halls and facades, beautiful design and splendid gardens now painstakingly renovated after years of Soviet neglect, making it surely the finest masterpiece of baroque architecture in the Baltic States.  Continue to Riga this evening.    Overnight Riga, Latvia.

DAY 8

This morning enjoy an included sightseeing tour of the Latvian capital city, Riga. Its historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and highlights include St. Peter’s Church, St Mary’s Dome Cathedral, the fabulously named House of Blackheads and the Town Hall Square. During the afternoon, travel north along the Baltic coast into Estonia, calling at the delightful seaside resort of Parnu en route to your final Baltic capital city.  Overnight Tallinn, Estonia.

DAY 9

Because of its history and location Tallinn has largely been spared invasion and destruction by war over the centuries so it really is like a time warp.  Your morning sightseeing walking tour of Tallinn with its superbly preserved medieval old town will help you to imagine what life was like in past centuries as you explore Toompea Castle, St Mary’s Cathedral – known as the Dome Church, Town Hall Square, the Old Guild and St. Olaf’s Church as well as admiring the wonderful Kadriorg Palace which was constructed as a gift by Peter the Great of Russia to his wife Catherine I. The afternoon is free to step back into the Middle Ages and wander amongst the timeless lanes and buildings at your own pace before transferring to the ferry port to join your cruise ferry for the crossing of the Gulf of Finland to Helsinki. Superb on board  facilities include classy bars and a superb variety of shops and boutiques.  Overnight Helsinki, Finland.

DAY 10

Join your air conditioned coach for a half day city sightseeing tour with an expert local guide around the capital of Finland. Renowned for its Nordic efficiency and cleanliness, Helsinki offers a great deal to admire including the impressive Olympic Stadium, the monument to Sibelius, the fascinating Fish Market, the Presidential Palace, City Hall and grandiose Senate Square, as well as the imposing World Heritage Suomenlinna Fortress, on its island guarding the entrance to the Gulf Of Finland. There’s free time this afternoon and evening to explore at your own pace and maybe do a little shopping in the smart city centre before enjoying one of the city’s many excellent dining options.  Overnight Helsinki.

DAY 11

Depart to the airport for your return journey home.

Fantastic Customer Service

The tour leader  phraised the Benelux tour very much, she said the coach and the driver were extremely good. They also liked the hotels and they would like to have the same hotels for the next (Aug) tour as well.

The driver in Amsterdam was also good and helpful, solved everything we asked for.
