Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrival in Rome,  Meet your guide and transfer to your hotel, taking in some of the city’s most iconic sights en-route including  the Roman Forum – the political, religious, and social heart of the ancient city – and a visit inside the imposing Colosseum, home of the Ancient Roman Gladiatorial Games,  for some fantastic photo opportunities to get your visit off to an exciting start. Check-in at your hotel and join your travelling companions for a welcome drink of Italian cocktails before a special welcome dinner at one of our range of excellent, innovative and unusual venues this evening.  Overnight Rome.

DAY 2

Join your expert local guide for a walking tour enabling you to get up close and personal with some of the  most famous sights and locations in the world. At the Trevi Fountain throw in your three coins, walk inside the stunning ancient Roman Pantheon, the most complete extant Roman building in the world, climb the Spanish Steps in the heart of Rome’s fashion and shopping district and stroll around beautiful Piazza Navona with its famous fountains by Bernini.   After a pause for lunch continue your tour by visiting the extraordinary Vatican Museums housing one of the most splendid collections of art and sculpture in the world, amassed by successive Popes over many centuries. Your guided visit begins with a view from the panoramic terrace, overlooking part of the Pope’s private gardens and the beautiful Dome of St.Peter’s Basilica before continuing with a look at just a part of the vast collection and visiting the stunning Sistine Chapel with its frescoed ceiling and Last Judgement by Michelangelo considered two of the most important works in the history of art and in particular of the Renaissance.  You leave the Chapel by the “Scala Regia”, stairs designed by Bernini, reaching St Peter’s Basilica and St Peter’s Square.
Transfer back to your hotel for time to freshen up before dining this evening.  Overnight Rome.

DAY 3

Choose from a wide range of excursions, visits and activities tailored perfectly to your requirements – here are just a few ideas for your 2nd day in Rome:

Gladiator Taining School – Enjoy a thrilling Roman experience – Try your hand at genuine attack and defense techniques, learn how to use the “rudis” a gladiator’s wooden sword and join simulated fights to try your hand with your newly-learned gladiatorial fighting skills! You can also visit the gladiator museum with its display of ancient weaponry and armour from the Roman Legions.

Ride Rome by Vintage Vespa – Explore the parts of the city that only the locals know aboard a classic Italian Vespa scooter.  Choose from a range of routes based around themes such as films, Rome’s seven hills, hidden Rome and Rome by night.

Pasta the Roman Way – Everybody loves Pasta, but do you know how to make it!  Learn from the experts as you discover the secrets of  producing a really good pasta.  Why not complete the day with the option to enjoy a truly unique private dining experience with your hosts at lunchtime or this evening.

Alternatively dine in one of Rome’s superb restaurants this evening, perhaps al fresco in an ancient square  surrounded by historic buildings enjoying wonderful Italian cuisine.  Overnight Rome.

DAY 4

Here are just a few more of the many programmes you can choose from as you enjoy another exciting day in Italy’s capital city.

Gelato Laboratory – Get to know the truth about that great Italian specialty – Gelato – with a fascinating visit to an historic Roman Gelateria founded in the 1800’s and still run by the same family today. Gelato masters explain the production of gelato and semifreddo (ice-cream-cake) and the difference between Italian Artisan Gelato and industrially made products . Then of course there is the chance to taste!!

Rome by Classic Cinquecento Car -Nothing is more “sixties Italy” than the unique delight of a tiny Fiat Cinquecento classic car (the original historic version). Take up the challenge and enjoy a fascinating drive around the streets of Rome and experience it for yourself.

Shopping!  This afternoon take in some of the best known designer brands in one of the world’s iconic shopping streets, the Via del Corso, or enjoy a trip to one of the outlet malls close to the city.

End your stay in Rome in real style by stepping back in time once again as you enjoy a Roman Banquet Gala Dinner .   Overnight Rome.

DAY 5

Depending on flight times, transfer to your airport for your homeward journey (if flight is later an excursion can be planned for this day e.g. to the Villa Adriano, Emperor Hadrian’s country home in the hills above Rome).

Fantastic Customer Service

The tour leader  phraised the Benelux tour very much, she said the coach and the driver were extremely good. They also liked the hotels and they would like to have the same hotels for the next (Aug) tour as well.

The driver in Amsterdam was also good and helpful, solved everything we asked for.
