After arrival, take a tour of Lisbon, Portugal’s capital city. With so many splendid attractions such as Jerónimos Monastery and Torre de Belem, which are both classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites, you will never get bored in this city! Overnight Lisbon, Portugal.
Just a short trip away from Lisbon are the beautiful towns of Sintra and Cascais. Start your tour with the journey to Sintra. Follow your guide to the historical centre where you’ll have free time to explore the town and visit Sintra National Palace. Next, admire the landscapes of Sintra Natural Park, passing Quinta da Regaleira. Enjoy a photo opportunity at the cliffs of Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Afterwards wander around the centre of Cascais, a former fishing village and today a popular holiday spot. Overnight Lisbon.
Start your journey eastwards, crossing the border into Andalucia, the southernmost province of Spain to arrive in the beautiful city of Seville for a guided city tour. The city has many impressive monuments dating back over the centuries. The Arabic Moors ruled Andalucia for many centuries and their legacy of marvellous architecture includes the stunning Alcazar. Equally impressive is the Gothic cathedral with its Giralda, a minaret transformed into a Christian bell tower. Head into the picturesque coastal hills, passing through Ronda with its historic viaduct en route to Malaga. Your sightseeing tour of this lovely city bordering the Mediterranean Sea takes in the Cathedral, the Alcazaba, and the exterior of the Picasso Museum, which houses more than 150 pieces donated by Picasso’s family. Later in the afternoon climb back away from the sea into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Overnight Granada.
Today you will visit the Alhambra, a UNESCO-listed palace complex and Granada’s most famous monument. Learn all the Alhambra’s intriguing history from your guide while exploring its delights, hearing tales of the Moorish Sultans who once called the palace their home. Visit Alcazaba Fortress and see Torre de la Vela, walk through the Alhambra’s most important halls and courtyards including the Nasrid Palaces, Patio de los Arrayanes, and the Salon de Embajadores. This morning admire the superb mountain scenery before descending through the olive groves to Cordoba. Walk across the Roman Bridge to reach the historic city centre and visit the Mezquita of Cordoba, a truly remarkable complex merging Arabic and Christian architecture regarded by many as one of the finest religious buildings in Europe. Walk around the town with its cobblestone streets and pass by the Jewish District before heading to the railway station where you will take the AVE high speed train to Madrid. Overnight Madrid.
Travel a short distance south from Madrid this morning for a walking tour of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Toledo. A highlight of your visit will be the sight of The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, the famous painting by 16th-century master El Greco, located in the Church of St Tome. See the exterior of the 13th-century Cathedral of Toledo, the medieval castle, Santa Maria la Blanca Synagogue, San Juan of the Kings Monastery and the Victorio Macho Museum. Return to Madrid for a panoramic sightseeing tour of Spain’s capital city, visiting the Palacio Real (Royal Palace) and passing the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium home of world famous football club Real Madrid. Today travel across the plain of Castille, stopping in Zaragoza to visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of El Pilar and view La Seo del Salvador and the Palacio de Aljaferia. Continue to meet the Mediterranean Sea once again in Barcelona, capital of Catalunya. Overnight Barcelona.
This morning you have the chance to visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, famous for its 12th-century Romanesque carving of the the Black Madonna and its stunning location on a rocky outcrop high above the surrounding valleys. Returning to Barcelona, continue your tour taking in the Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s masterpiece which is still being completed. Then take a stroll around Parc Guell before some free time around Las Ramblas, the legendary boulevards at the heart of this lively city. Overnight Barcelona.
Free time this morning or time permitting head out to the La Roca outlet village for designer shopping before starting your homeward journey.
