Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrive in London. Depending on flight schedules there may be time to start your London sightseeing with a “flight” on the London Eye from which you can get a fantastic bird’s eye view of the city and beyond. Then walk along the River Thames past the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey & Buckingham Palace.  This evening why not dine just across the park at the original Hard Rock Café, still housing the first ever piece of memorabilia donated, Eric Clapton’s Lead II Fender guitar, originally donated to reserve a space at the busy bar! The Cafe is also as famous as ever for attracting the best rock stars currently in town for a burger and the occasional “jamming session”!  Lose yourself in the extensive memorabilia collection – one of the most expensive in the world – or enjoy some great live music in the Basement. Overnight central London.

DAY 2
A Full Day Rock Music sightseeing tour is included. In the morning you will see McCartney’s Golden Disc covered office and the flat where he wrote “Yesterday” the only flat shared by all Fab Four. You’ll also see the famed “Tin Pan Alley“, the Kinks‘ Muswell Hill “shrine”, and Rod Stewart’s family home and school.   See where Pink Floyd cut “The Wall” and pass Sting’s home. See where Jimmy Page cut his first disc and famous locations including the Rainbow, 100 Club, Roxy, & Camden Roundhouse as well as places famous in the careers of Elton John, The Clash, Fairport Convention, Bob Dylan and Iron Maiden.  Afternoon highlights include seeing where Freddie Mercury and Queen hung out and Led Zeppelin’s HQ. You will also see sites connected with The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Cream, Coldplay, Oasis, David Bowie, The Who and many more! You’ll end the day at Bill Wyman’s (Stones) “Sticky Fingers” restaurant.  Overnight central London.
DAY 3

This morning you’ll visit more of the city’s major sights that have featured in so many famous songs and album covers, like the Tower of London, Nelson’s Column and Trafalgar Square, the iconic Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral.  In the afternoon visit The Vault – a treasure trove of rock memorabilia including the costume and guitar of Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, Madonna’s bustier, Keith Moon’s ‘western’ shirt and the harpsichord used by The Beatles to record ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’   Why not ask the Vault master about the Souvenir photograph opportunity. Head over to Carnaby Street for a bit of nostalgia shopping as a ‘dedicated follower of fashion’ before moving on to Soho for the evening.  Here so much of London’s post war music history is tied up in the famous names and sites all around, like Ronnie Scotts where The Who first performed Tommy and Jimmi Hendrix made his final public appearance, Mezzo – site of the Marquee where Pink Floyd became famous and Denmark Street, where many stars still frequent the legendary guitar shops. Overnight central London.

DAY 4

This morning travel north to Birmingham and visit St Paul’s Gallery which houses the world’s biggest collection of album cover art, including sleeve designs by Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and The Who.  Visit the Barton Arms, one of the finest examples of a Victorian English Pub, where Ozzy Osbourne (as well as Charlie Chaplin and Laurel & Hardy) were regular drinkers – perhaps have a pint and some lunch yourself!   Continue north via Stoke on Trent, home of England’s most famous potteries, where you can take in The Red Lion, the pub where Robbie Williams grew up and first sang, before you arrive in Manchester. Manchester is renowned for its modern music scene so this evening why not take the opportunity of some live music at one of the city’ s many venues.  For a supplement you can stay in the luxurious Radisson Edwardian hotel, a rebuild of the famous Free Trade Hall where many great bands played in the past.
Overnight Manchester area.

DAY 5

This morning enjoy a guided tour of all the major music sites in this thriving city, incorporating such famous names as Herman’s Hermits, The Hollies, 10CC, Simply Red, Oasis, The Smiths, Joy Division, Barclay James Harvest and Stone Roses.  Enjoy a relaxing lunch at Manchester’s very own Hard Rock Cafe and marvel at another mind blowing array of music memorabilia belonging to legends such as Elton John, George Harrison, Oasis, Roger Taylor of Queen & Elvis Presley. During the afternoon take the short drive west to the city of Liverpool, home of The Beatles, for a visit to The Beatles Story the award winning museum that tells the history of the Fab Four from start to finish.   Overnight  Liverpool area.

DAY 6

Welcome to Liverpool where the music revolution of the 60’s really took off.  Today’s full day sightseeing will take you on a ‘magical mystery tour’ around the places that launched a true legend – The Beatles.  You’ll get to see many of the places that were part of the Beatles history and music, from the boyhood homes of Lennon & McCartney to the places made so famous by the songs – like Penny Lane & Strawberry Fields – and the venues that witnessed the birth of a phenomenon The Cavern Club and Jacaranda amongst them. But Liverpool is more than a Beatles theme park and you’ll have time to enjoy a Ferry ‘cross the Mersey boat ride and a visit to the world famous Anfield home of Liverpool FC if you wish and perhaps take in the superb contemporary night life. Overnight Liverpool area.

DAY 7

Travel back south today and visit Cambridge, the great university city and early home of Pink Floyd.  A guided sightseeing tour takes in the university colleges and places which inspired the songs, homes of the band including David Gilmour’s Grantchester Meadows and famous gig venues like the Criterion Pub.   Return to London in time for a final evening exploring the city’s music venues tonight.   Overnight central London
