Follow the adventures of the young wizard from London - at Kings Cross platform 9 3/4, in Oxford, Gloucester, the remote North York Moors, stately Alnwick Castle in Northumberland and taking in York, Durham, the Peak District and Windsor en route. Also featured is a visit to the new "Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter" - a ‘must see’ for all Potter fans!
EXTRA: For the 'advanced' Harry Potter fans out there, seeking in-depth information and wanting to learn more about the history and heritage of the places and buildings around the UK that featured in many of the movies, click here for your enlightenment!
Arrive in London and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of London, taking in famous sights such as Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square as well as visiting several locations used during the filming of the Harry Potter series, such as Kings Cross Station, Australian House (used as Gringotts Wizarding Bank) and the Millennium Bridge (featured in the opening sequences of Order of the Phoenix). Overnight in central London.
This morning's included visit is sure to be a highlight of your trip! Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is a behind-the-scenes walking tour which immerses guests into the exciting world of film-making. The tour features authentic sets, costumes and props from the Harry Potter film series located at the studio where it was filmed, and showcases the British artistry, technology and talent that go into producing world renowned movies. The Studio Tour will initially focus on the Harry Potter film series, incorporating some of its most iconic sets including the Great Hall, Dumbledore’s office, Diagon Alley and the Gryffindor common room. In the afternoon we travel to Oxford, home to incredible architecture and many scenes in Harry Potter. You will see Christchurch College, used as Hogwarts dining room and Bodleian Library, used as Hogwarts’ library. Overnight in the South Midlands area.
Step back in time this morning at Warwick Castle - Britain’s greatest Mediaeval experience - before travelling to York. See the imposing York Minster and visit the Jorvik Viking Centre, then continue to Goathland Station. Part of the North York Moors Railway, the station was used in ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’. Overnight in the North Yorkshire area.
Depart for Northumberland and Alnwick Castle, the second largest inhabited castle in the UK. The castle gardens were used to film Harry’s first flying lesson, and as you explore you will recognize more scenes including the location of some of the Quidditch games. From Alnwick travel to Bamburgh Castle, where some scenes in both ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ were filmed. Overnight in the Newcastle area.
Take the short journey to Durham and its stunning Cathedral. Used in the first two Harry Potter films, you will recognise the cloisters as the quadrangle where Harry flies his owl, and the chapter house as Professor McGonagall’s classroom. After lunch, travel south to the Peak District, where you will discover Hardwick Hall - used as the setting for sinister Malfoy Manor in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ (parts 1 and 2). Overnight in the Midlands area.
We travel to Gloucester to visit the Cathedral. Many interior scenes were filmed here, including ghost scenes. A famous scene from ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’, involving Harry and Moaning Myrtle, also took place at the Cathedral. A short drive after lunch takes us to Lacock Abbey, used for many school scenes, including Porfessor Snape’s dungeon classroom. The mediaeval village of Lacock itself was the inspiration for Harry’s home village of Godric’s Hollow. Overnight in the Bath area.
Enjoy a late morning start, before journeying back towards London. We stop at the unique Windsor Castle, royal residence and mediaeval castle. Windsor is the longest occupied palace in Europe, and is home to many treasures. After the visit, you will have some free time in Windsor itself before travelling back to the airport for your return flight.
